Finding the Squeeze: Friction on Rope

Learn how to utilize friction and compression as we explore various positions and hangs in rope vertical theory. Workshop will include discussion of proper muscle recruitment, the fundamental mechanics of friction and distribution of weight, and the application of these theories in technical skills like knee hang and paper clip. Student’s should have a regular practice on rope and be comfortable with a variety of vertical vocabulary. Please wear clothing made out of organic material (no silky spandex), trust me, you’ll be happier. 

Emma Luz is a multidisciplinary movement artist and composer specializing in rope and contact meteor. Emma is a graduate of NECCA’s Professional Track Training Program and the Nimble Arts Foundation Level Teacher Training in Fabric and Trapeze. She also holds a BA in Humanities, Outdoor Leadership and Music from the University of Oregon. Along with 10 years of experience in teaching circus, horse back riding, and rock climbing, Emma brings an exuberance for self-growth, technical excellence and creative exploration to her students.
